Innovative concepts and ideas in the context of organic and printed electronics – that is what the OE-A was looking for with its 2014 Demonstrator Competition. During LOPEC, prizes in four categories were awarded. Moreover, two prizes were awarded to participants of the Start-up Forum.

Frankfurt/Main, Germany, June 11, 2014 – Competition was pretty close. Only a few points separated the winners of the fourth OE-A Demonstrator Competition from the other participants. “Creativity and professionalism” of all projects is what caused the close results. This is what the international jury decided during LOPEC, the leading tradeshow and conference for organic and printed electronics.

Innovative concepts illustrating the capabilities of organic and printed electronics are recognized with the demonstrator awards. It is supposed to open new perspectives to end-user industries as well. “This year, we received remarkably interesting demonstrators in consumer electronics, lighting, functional surfaces and identification”, OE-A Chairman Dr. Stephan Kirchmeyer said. “Compared to previous years, the results of the projects have obviously improved again.” That reflects the maturity of the young industry. Furthermore, the OE-A wants to accelerate market entry of organic and printed electronics with the new category “Prototypes and New Products”.

The jury scored 17 demonstrators and eight design concepts. During the LOPEC dinner, prizes were awarded in four different categories:

Best Prototype / New Product:
Multi-touch Sensor for Smart Phones
– PolyIC

Best Freestyle Demonstrator:
Flexible Timer for Rough Environments
– University of Applied Sciences Munich & California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly)

A jury consisting of international industry leaders determined the winners.

Two awards were presented:
