The OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) has established a Working Group for Standardization/Quality Control and Measurement and a Working Group Encapsulation

OE-A Working Group Quality Control and Measurement

With the installation of mass-production capacities for organic and printed electronics, the consistent characterization of devices and high-throughput, in-line quality control systems becomes more and more of a focus for companies. This Working Group supports the move of organic and printed electronics into the market by developing concepts for quality control, dedicated guidelines for device characterization for OTFT, OLED and OPV-based applications in cooperation with EU projects (OPERA, PRODI).

Target of the OE-A Working Group Quality Control and Measurement
The target of this group is the definition of common measurement guidelines for OTFTs and other devices in order to address end-user needs. This Working Group provides guidance to the organic and printed electronics community and enables a comparison of measurement results.

Results of the OE-A Working Group Quality Control and measurement have been incorporated to the standardization process of the Technical Committee TC 119 'Printed Electronics', which has been installed by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) with the support of OE-A.

OE-A Working Group Encapsulation

The working on barrier properties for OLED and OPV remains a challenge and further standardization efforts are needed to qualify encapsulation.
 
Target of the OE-A Working Group Encapsulation
The goal of the OE-A Working Group Encapsulation is to trigger the standards development process. Therefore the group started round robin tests to clarify permeation testing to qualify sealant materials and barrier-on-foil materials with optical and electrical Calcium-Tests.

Standardization

IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) started the standardization for the Printed Electronics.
The OE-A has been supporting IEC-TC119 from the start. Contributions include results of the OE-A Working Groups Quality Control and measurement / Standardization, Roadmap, as well as support of national mirror committees.

We need your input: fill out questionnaire and help to speed up market and technology developments on permeation barriers and encapsulation solutions!

The OE-A Working Group Encapsulation addresses expressed needs in the organic and large-area electronics community to speed up market and technology developments on permeation barriers and encapsulation solutions. One key activity of the group is to translate the device manufacturers’ requirements into measurable properties of encapsulation products.

A questionnaire is now designed to identify important values and parameters that should be included in an ideal data sheet of encapsulation solutions for organic and printed electronics. The input from end-users, device manufacturers, material suppliers and research partners is required to reach the goal of defining translation points for improved communication across the value chain!
